CAT BREEDS; THEIR PERSONALITY AND CHARACTERISTICS

Cat have many breeds and their characters are determined by  their associations.Cats have a wide variety in terms of their shape,size and personality traits .In case you are bringing a cat to your home you must look for a cat breed that suits your household composition,your lifestyle and how much grooming you are able to handle.

1. Abyssinian short-haired breed:

• Characteristics : Short hair cat with large ear ,slender built ,ruddy ;blue ,red ,fawn color , tabby coat, typically weight 6 to 10 pounds.

• Personality : Very affectionate to people. Highly active,energetic and stimulus driven.These cats are highly intelligent and athletic.

2. American wirehair short-haired breed :

• Characteristics : Springy and curly fur , have wide range of color and pattern ,and weight 8-14 pounds.

• Personality : Playful and smart cats have even temperament. Good choice for families having children and other pets. These are affectionate cats.

3.  American curl long and short-hair breed :

• Characteristics : Curled ear (away from face) , available in different colors and patterns and grow to about 5-12 pound.

• Personality : Extremely social (should not be only pet at home), energetic and affectionate.

4. American bobtail breed :  

• Characteristics : Have large frame and the appearance of bobcat with ears with long hair. These are naturally occurring medium to large size cats. Can grow upto 10-12 pounds , male cat can be 14 pounds or more . 2-4 inches length short tail and have intermediate fur with many colors.

• Personality : Loving and intelligent have -dog like- traits i.e. outgoing and playful , because of their loving and sensitive nature these cats are used in animal-assisted therapy.

5. American short-hair breed :

• Characteristics : Broad and sturdily built. Low maintenance cat with not much grooming , available in wide range of colors and patterns while silver are its most popular color.Most popular breed in america therefore called domestic short hair.

• Personality : Even tempered , have moderate level of activity,do enjoy hunting so must be kept indoors . These cats are good with child and other pet tend to live in community than alone .

6. British long-hair breed :

• Characteristics :Large built, thick, long and curly coat .Mostly available in rust,cream and grey color although comes in many other colors .These large cat have weight between 12-18 pounds.

• Personality : These are placid cats and do not require much grooming ,a good option for families with children.

7. British short-hair breed :

• Characteristics : Stocky, sturdy, plush coat, with short fur and round face ,tend to be short with stout legs. Come in different colors but blue and grey are very much popular.

• Personality : Calm and quite, enjoys laying about.These cats love to live around people and also do well with other cats and dogs.

8. Burmese short-hair breed :

• Characteristics : Have yellow to golden eyes and sable fur ,sturdy and well muscled , available in blue ,champagne and platinum color. These are medium size cats.

• Personality : Affectionate ,outgoing ,intelligent cats that enjoy being with people.They can be quite depending upon behaviors.

9. Birman long-hair breed :

• Characteristics : Long hair cat with white feet and point color patterns i.e blue point,lilac point , seal point , chocolate point. These are sturdy cats with medium length easy to groom fur.

• Personality : Mostly gentle and quite but can be playful, sweet and affectionate.

10. Persian long-hair breed :

• Characteristics : Broad and sturdily built ,tend to be stocky with tons of luxurious fur. Body is completely covered in long full coat , have round head with short nose and broad face having distinct eyes. Available in wide range of colors and patterns.

• Personality : These are the most affectionate cats  with sweet dispositions. A good choice for families with children. They require a lot of regular grooming due to huge hair coat.

11. Ragdoll long-hair breed : 

• Characteristics : Large cat with color at points - seal,chocolate,lilac,blue,van,mitted,cream as well as bi-color and solid pointed pattern.Male are larger than female and weigh about 12-18 pounds.

• Personality : These are very calm and placid cats and are good choice for families with kids. These are affectionate and docile cats with the ability to live only in indoors.

12. Ragamuffin Long hair breed :

• Characteristics : Long hair large size cat with large eloquent eyes. Available in wide variety of colors. Male are usually larger than female.

• Personality : This breed is very poise and docile,love to play with people and is affectionate in nature.

13. Siberian long-hair breed :

• Characteristics : Large cats having long thick fur, Russian native breed, colors are color point, tabby, tortoiseshell ,and most solid colors.

• Personality : Enjoy training, powerful cats, affectionate to children and are outgoing , do well with other pets and known to play with dogs.

14. Siamese short-hair breed :

• Characteristics : Long , sleek body with color at points - chocolate ,seal ,blue and lilac; long slender legs ,triangular head with almond shape eyes.

• Personality : Vocal and will have extended -conversations- with human.These cats are intelligent , affectionate , active and love to cuddle with people .These cats are best to keep as they are very playful and loving.
